Fourth Plinth from the Sun: Art reaches a new Height?
British sculptor Antony Gormley, (b. 1950) famous for celebrating the human form through scupture, e.g, ‘Angel of the North’ amongst others, is taking his art to new heights.
Gormley’s latest work is called ‘The Fourth Plinth’. It’s in Trafalgar Square London. The idea is that 1 person out of the 2000 randomly picked people from around the country stands on the fourth plinth for one hour of fame. They can do whatever they wish in their one hour. Some have used this as a platform to draw attention to political and personal issues: other have shown a more artistic bent. The antics are filmed and will hopefully provide a portrait of Britain.
Here’s a taste of what they’re up to HERE
However, I had to laugh at the one who sat in a chair reading a paper and called himself ‘Live Dad’! Unfortunately I couldn’t find a pic of ‘Live Dad’ so here’s his very opposite -‘Dead DAD’ (Ron Mueck)
