A New Day yesterday: Talent versus the Average Joe equals Predictable Result

Posted in WATCHED with tags , , on May 24, 2009 by echostains

It’s not like me to be political (not on here anyway, it’s supposed to be an art blog)  BUT, I’ve just got to SAY……………..

kris-allen lovely looking pleasant sounding lad so wheres the harm eh?

Great finale to American Idol, which i have been watching avidly.  Of course Adam Lambert should have won, but I just sort of KNEW that Kris Allen, ‘nice guy all American Boy’ would win.  Likeability factor? both are likeable.  Talent factor? COME ON,no contest from where I’m sitting!

Adam Lambert just EXTREMELY Talented Rock Icon

Adam Lambert just EXTREMELY Talented Rock Icon

I have to put it down to the AMERICAN DREAM.  Yes, it’s still going….. small town guy with small talent, (or Mr Average Joe with Mr Average talent IMHO)   appeals to the masses and  makes it BIG, hereby making the ‘dream’ come true.  Of COURSE Kris won.  And good luck to the lad! I really do wish him well.

As for the American dream, well it was a new day yesterday…but its an OLD day now.  WELL DONE ADAM LAMBERT!  Great that you won’t have to sing that bloody  AWFUL song lol!  I knew and still feel that we are witnessing the emergence of someone who is going to be GIGANTIC!  Mark me, this guy will become an ICON………because of his TALENT (which is WHY he SHOULD have won……….)

Of course I am looking at the result in a simplistic way. …… There is a LOT of stuff going on under the surface of this ‘talent’ show……

Here’s an extremely interesting observation about what happened on American Idol……..

The Sound of Silence is Deafening… Time for a Cuppa

Well it’s been a very quiet couple of days on here.   Where have all the people gone?  Why the mass exodus?  Is it something I said perhaps lol!  I find it very strange.  This has only happened once before, and even then it wasn’t as bad as this.

Anyway, over and upwards as they say.  Here is one of my teapots (above).  I bought this years ago for a couple of quid.  I’d love the rest of it, but I’ve never come across it!

Teapots go all Political!

I love looking (and collecting) unusual teapots.  These teapots all have a political theme.

This Hitler teapot by Charles Krafft may be not to everyones taste, but I think it incredibly well done.  It also reduces the Fuhrer to a harmless teapot.

Now if only they had  all got together and sat down and discussed their differences over a nice cup of tea………………..

‘The German artist Katherina Fritsch’s powerful spatially dominant sculpture ‘Rattenkonig’ (Rat King) 1993 -94 is the product of a very ordinary experience which the artist had in a large city (at the back of New York Art institution).  She finds herself in front of a large rathole.  The idea was born for a ring of huge rats, geometrically linked to for a crown.

This awakens associations with the legends and stories of a circular tangle of knotted rats tails, a seat of infection and a demonic throng.  Whereas the kind of rat found on the shelves of toy shops represents a ‘lovable cuddly copy’, the sexless 2.8 metre high creatures in the ‘Rottenkonig‘ installation resemble the immaterial simulation of computer design.  Fritsch is fascinated with the English Arts and Crafts movement and she applies the ideology of enhancing perfect industrial and perfectly crafted products in her sculptures.’

Teapots are Like a Box of Chocolates…. You Never Know What you’re gonna get

Tea pots have come a long long way from being purely functional vessels.   I came across these by  British potter Tony Carter.  There is somthing very British and quaint about these teapots which I find charming.

Maybe its the naivity of the faces that I find so cute?

Maybe it’s nostalgia for uniforms that offer service?  Service has changed and so have the uniforms….

This image and uniform is still going strong though.  Maybe it’s the continuity of tradition that draws me.  These designs are all full of charm anyway!
